Old Main in the snow

Old Main in the snow

2014 marks the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Slippery Rock University. On Wednesday March 26th members of the Slippery Rock University community joined to celebrate Founders Day.

After arriving at the university alumni house for the ceremony I was able to sneak out and snap a photo of Old Main with a light coating of snow that had fallen over night.

Flash Back Friday

Flash Back Friday

Been busy the last 24-36 hours with a life event that I will discuss later this week. As a result I haven’t generated any new photo content. Don’t worry, everything is perfectly fine and actually really great.

Today’s image is a throw back to vacation July of 2012 at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I took a small set of equipment and set out to create some images one evening. I am not a landscape photographer by trade, so it is fun to play around a little and pretend I am shooting something for National Geographic.

2013 Wedding Recap

2013 Wedding Recap

In recent years I have dialed back how many weddings I shoot. I decided that I wasn’t going to participate in wedding shows and I was going to work with couples that were drawn to my style and the way I work. I have found that in recent years the wedding photography market has turned into a rat race of long established photographers shooting a very traditional style and new comers that were willing to charge $300 just to say they were a photographer and shoot images with poor light, heavily photoshopped, and blurry images.

So decided to raise the bar a little and challenge myself last year. I started not competing on price and started working to create amazing images. This is one of those shots from a great wedding last year. I used one of my studio strobes powered by a battery with a beauty dish modifier. I had the bride and groom get to the reception, get settled, grab a bite to eat and visit with their guests. Before the dancing got rolling we just slipped out the back door to a field behind the reception hall at sunset. We shot for about 10 minutes so the pace was a little fast. After dialing in my settings I just sat back and photographed… the result is exactly what I was looking for.

Enjoy….

Back again….

So I know that I said I was going to be better at the whole “blogging more often” and I admit that I failed. So for now I will try again.

This time I might post random thoughts, tips, behind the scenes, light set ups, what is in my bag, reports from the road, and of course images.

So here goes nothing…… again.

Karns City Class of 2014 – Senior portrait info

Just to set a few things straight about the letter sent out by Lifetouch / Prestige about senior portraits at Karns City High School:

You are required to get one photo taken by Lifetouch/Prestige for use in the yearbook. You are not required to get all of your senior portraits taken there. You are welcome to use a photographer of your choice for the senior portraits that you give out to friends and family.

Apex Imaging Photography specialized in Senior Portraits with style and creativity at several locations around Butler county for a reasonable price. Give us a call and see what we can do for you. I hope to hear from you soon
